There was an Overkill store not far from where I was living, and I walked over to find the walls lined with what seemed like a hundred different styles and colors of athletic shoes. I explained to a salesman that I was looking for something to wear to the gym, rather than to run in, and he said unfortunately they didn’t have anything for me there, suggesting I go to an athletic shoe store. I looked at him quizzically, indicating the walls of shoes, and he said Overkill’s shoes were just for fashion, not for actual athletic use. I went to one of the runner’s shoestores he suggested. The salesman there corroborated the story.
